Made by Rabea Gebler

This large wooden plate was made in the style of a sweetstray for the Japanese tea ceremony. The plate is almost 25cm in diameter and was made on a Japanese lathe using local end grain Keyaki (Zelkova Wood). Endgrain creates a beautiful grain pattern and is quite rare for a plate of this size. Finished with Japanese Hassui Ceramic Finish, this plate is odourless and has a matte finish, but is water resistant and food safe. There is a small branch on the edge of the plate, which should not affect the usability of the plate.

  • Wood constantly changes and breathes, even after it has been crafted into products. In some cases this may take the form of a bend, twist, crack or other deformation. We believe that wood is a living material and it will take on more character as it ages. However, there are ways to ensure that your product lasts longer. Avoid using these items in areas that are excessively dry, such as near air conditioning or windows exposed to direct sunlight. You should also avoid leaving them in water or in close proximity to a source of heat.
